CPVC application and industry status

1.CPVC is chlorinated polyvinyl chloride
The basic properties are similar to PVC, but the CPVC obtained by PVC resin after chlorination modification increases the solubility and chemical stability, which greatly improves the heat resistance of the material, acid, alkali, salt, oxidizer corrosion, and so on, while the flame retardant can be further improved. In general, CPVC is becoming a new type of engineering plastics with broad application prospects. However, due to the short commercialization time and large differences in production quality among manufacturers, CPVC has developed rapidly, but its market share has grown slowly.
2.CPVC’s overseas development
Commercial production and application of CPVC began in the early 1960s, and the current foreign technology is relatively mature. International CPVC resin production and sales are in an absolute monopoly state, the application system is perfect, and the industry is developing healthily and rapidly. At present, there are more than 20 companies in the world producing CPVC resin, mainly concentrated in the United States, Japan, Germany, France and other countries, all using aqueous suspension production.
In addition to Lubrizol, Japan’s water, Jongbuchi Chemical, calcium carbide Industry, Germany’s BASF and France’s Arkema are also major CPVC manufacturers in the world. These companies are unique in developing specialized PVC resins for CPVC processing formulations based on their solid PVC resin production base. Developed countries in the world have formed a complete CPVC application system, with mature application fields and markets, has formed a variety of serialization, specialization and refinement of the industrial pattern, the industry is healthy and rapid development, is gradually replacing PVC resin products in the field of water pipelines, municipal engineering, buried power pipe network and other fields.
3. Domestic development of CPVC
Since CPE and CPVC are both aqueous suspension production processes, CPVC is mostly an incidental production of some CPE manufacturers. It has the characteristics of small capacity and immature production technology. At present, domestic CPVC is generally divided into two categories of formula and general materials. With the industrial production of new chlorinated polyvinyl chloride special resin products QS-C62 and QS-C65 of Qilu Petrochemical Chlorine-alkali Plant, the problem of domestic CPVC raw materials relying on imports has been solved. Shandong Xiangsheng Technology New Materials Co., Ltd. has developed self-produced CPVC products while grasping the large innovation investment, making up for the gap in domestic independent research and development.
4. Current problems
As a new type of engineering plastics, CPVC has a short development period in China, and the immature production process and the awareness of end users have hindered the application and promotion of CPVC in China. At present, the problems facing the domestic CPVC industry are mainly manifested in the following three aspects:
First, at present, the majority of CPVC devices for miscarriage. The largest CPVC manufacturers in China are Shanghai chloride, Jiangsu Tianteng, Weifang Gaoxin, Dongying Xuye, Xiangsheng plastic, etc., the maximum production capacity of a single manufacturer is 20,000 tons, the capacity of other devices is more than 10,000 tons, and the majority of CPVC small production capacity devices.
Second, the production technology is still not up to the international level. Behind the lag in technology, we can see that small and medium-sized CPVC enterprises lack financial support at present, and small enterprises are weak in bank loans and surplus funds, and cannot invest a lot of money in technology research. Small production capacity and low product quality are also one of the reasons for the limited application of CPVC in China.
Third, domestic demand is slow, and its products are dominated by export orders. At present, the domestic CPVC pipe demand is less than 40,000 tons, and the domestic CPVC products are mainly export orders. At present, there are two misunderstandings in the understanding of CPVC in China: one is not fully aware of the high quality performance of CPVC; Second, some end users are aware of the importance of CPVC, but for their own interests, the illegal change of materials happens, CPVC is used during the inspection or sample, but the phenomenon of PVC is common in other occasions, and the opening of domestic demand in the later period still needs the government to increase inspection efforts and increase the user’s full awareness of CPVC performance.
